Camping Trailer - Post #1 - 12/05/2021

So because I'm never comfortable leaving the number of projects where it is I'm adding to the list....

My long time girlfriend and I like to camp/vacation up in the Appalachians when possible and have gotten sick of sleeping on the ground and I'm looking to be able to take ourselves out to more dispersed camping areas out west in the near future.

So we went ahead and purchased a small M416 military trailer to start as a base to our camping trailer.

So here it is! (ignore the mess in the background, still trying to get some real organization in our small garage)

And here's some dimensions:

I'll be working to fabricate an aluminum framed lid to fit on top and allow for us to place crossbars across and mount a roof-top tent on top of that. I've already purchased a Smittybilt Overlander XL second-hand from someone.

I'm going for something similar to this when complete:
List of items/features that we're going to implement

 - Aluminum framed lid with gas struts
 - Convert 4 pin trailer connection to 7 pin to allow for electric brakes later
 - Add electrical system for charging phones, etc
 - Add shore charging for charging up at home and if we stop at a full hookup site every now and then
 - Add potable water system for drinking, cooking, etc with external water hookup
 - Add awning
 - Add road-shower
 - Extend tongue and either retain pintle hitch or convert to lock-n-roll hitch
 - Fix taillights (they're intermittently broken now)

I'm hoping to get this to the point of "min viable product" by March/April to go on a short camping trip to shake it down.

I'll hopefully have more to show soon as I'm ordering a lot of the parts/material I need curently.

I'm still working the LRE project as well and hope to spend a lot of time on both of these projects once I'm on vacation in the latter part of this month.
